About me

Sarah is a ceramic artist, ceramics teacher, and therapist for children with Autism. She was born in Canada & lived in Hamilton Ontario her whole life, loving the art & food scene. She can usually be found in her small little office room creating ceramic pieces from scratch, or teaching ceramic workshops in different hot spots around Hamilton. She loves collaborating with local artists and local businesses to bring together fun art workshops for the community. Her work, lovingly crafted through a combination of slip casting and hand building, brings whimsical and bright themes of artwork to bring joy in the everyday and changing seasons. Her background in mental health inspires her to include small self-love affirmations in her work that is often seen, in hopes to serve as a gentle reminder to be more kinder to ourselves.

She has recently moved in her work at Dark Horse Cafe in hamilton, Willard’s Ice cream in Hamilton & has represented her work in various community events and settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make what I make?

My pottery is all made from stoneware clay, with lots of hand cut shapes, plaster molds, pinching, slab making and more. When I hand build a mug, I usually cut slabs of clay or pinch the clay into the shape I want it to be. When I slip cast my more perfect looking mugs, I pour liquid clay into the molds. My favourite part is hand painting my pieces and creating themes of art that I’m in the mood for. I don’t own a kiln so I have to meticulously and carefully pack my work for transport to use the studio’s kiln!

What is your turnaround time?

Pottery takes a really long time lol. First after i create my pieces in batches, i have to wait for them to all completely dry which can take a week. After that, they go in for their first firing (bisque) which takes a couple days. Once i have my bisqueware, i start painting— the most time consuming part! I really enjoy the painting process so it can take another week to complete my batch. Then glazing to ensure they are food safe & glossy, then for their final firing! This can all take up to or more than a month. But it’s all so worth it because i enjoy each and every phase up until the final product!

Do you take custom orders?

Sometimes! I will usually send out a email/instagram post of when i am accepting them throughout the year. Lately I’ve been enjoying putting my whole energy into things I’m interested and inspired to create. But, you are more than welcome to reach out to me with an inquiry!

What tools and clay do you use?

I have a variety of handy dandy tools that I love. Wooden tools with little spoon like curves, pin tools, metal ribs, loop tools to carve my charcuterie boards, and paintbrushes to smooth any imperfections and around my handle attachments. I love using local clay from PSH in Oakville Ontario!

Do you do private or school visits?

Yes! I have loads of experience teaching kids pottery classes and would love to take on any school setting pottery activities :) as for private sessions, this would be something we would need to connect with further!
